Summer is taking a bit of a toll on my blogging. I have lots of topics and things swirling in my brain but what is missing, courtesy of my two sidekicks, is the time to put any of it down in a coherent way. Instead, my time is currently being filled moderating such debates as who's turn it is to let Tucker out of his crate, or who is a faster runner, or whether the air in the back of the car should be set at full blast or low and trying to thwart Drew's efforts to fill my house with crap and thereby make himself the youngest person profiled on a Hoarders show. All of that seems to be a full time job. A ridiculous full time job but still. So, instead of something with a point, I am just going to bombard you with pictures.
I love living in Colorado and we love to spend time in the mountains in the summer. A week ago, in a fit of boredom, I took the boys up to the mountains and we hiked up to St. Mary's Lake and glacier. It is way high up, at 10,800 feet and is gorgeous.
This past weekend, the whole family, including the furry members, spent the day up in Twin Lakes, near Leadville. Also high up, around 10,000 feet, and also stunning. It is one of those places that makes me wish I was a much better photographer than I am. We ate lunch by the lake and Tucker, who, unlike Ella, actually likes water, played some fetch in the water and tried his hand at swimming. He wasn't too sure about the deeper water stuff but loved playing in the shallow ends.
After lunch, we drove to the south end of the lake and hiked 2 miles to an old abandoned town called Interlaken. At the end of the 1800's it was a popular resort destination. In the early 1900's it fell out of favor and has been sitting there ever since. There is no road to it but if you hike the 2 miles, you can check out the leftover buildings and the house that belonged to the hotel owner is open and you can wander around inside. We had fun checking out the house and climbing up to the 3rd story cupola.
All in all, a great way to spend a Saturday. We left the house around 9:30 and didn't get home until around 6 and every single one of us, even the 5 month old, were pooped.
**On a side note, Grandpa Covington, thanks so much for sending the hats! The boys love them and are wearing them lots!**
