Sorrel Bistro is tucked away in the Bel Vellagio Shopping Center across from the Promenade Mall in Temecula. For those of you who shop at Tangerine, it is a few steps away. This recently opened bistro is the brain child of chef Adrian Halmagean, who attended Le Cordon Bleu’s California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena in 2003, where he was awarded the Directors List of Achievement for International Cuisine. He has returned to his home town of Temecula to begin his culinary career. The restaurant is European Style, with great influences of the Romanian and Mexican food cultures. Chef Adrian is committed to making food of the highest quality and utilizing as much locally grown produce in his recipes.
I have dined at Sorrel on two occasions and was thoroughly impressed! Although this is not a gluten-free restaurant, the menu does have many items on the menu that are gluten-free and the chef will make accommodations for gluten-free patrons. The Tomato Bisque and Butternut Squash Soup are both gluten-free and amazingly delicious. Each soup captured the essence of the flavors! I loved them both. Another member of my party ordered the French Onion Soup without the crouton and loved it as well.
The sausage, which is hand made from scratch in the restaurant, is spicy and gluten-free. Everybody there is extremely friendly and welcoming. Be sure to let the server know that you are on a gluten-free diet before ordering. Save room for the Creme Brulee. It is the best in the Valley.
