DEBORAH C. NIELSEN

I decided to get involved with the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce, once again, for many reasons. Some of these are that the Chamber gives one the opportunity to keep in contact with the local businesses and the legislature that affects them. I believe that generally as business prospers and does well, so does the local community in which it resides.

Previously, I worked for Meier & Frank/ZCMI for 20 years. The last ten years I was a Human Resources Executive in the Salt Lake Downtown, South Towne, and University (Orem) locations. In this position I often attended the WBN monthly meetings and was able to make connections with many business women. Along with expanding your network, this always has the affect of broadening your perspective on opinions and ideas, which can be used to improve your business and self.

I have been a stay-at-home mother now for the past seven years, and with my last child now 16, I am interested in getting back into the workforce. I loved Human Resources, but I also have many other interests which include Employment Law, and anything dealing with numbers since my major in college was Math. So my mind turned, once again, to the Chamber and how involvement with this group can put me in contact with other business men and women, and help give me insight into the industry within Utah County. The Chamber also has many avenues with which to recognize private citizens as well as involvement with the politics that affects local business.

So, with this, I am excited to be a part of this assembly of professionals, make acquaintances, and contribute to the Chamber and community.
