Wynn Poolisde lounging and Super Sundaes at LakeSide Grill -- Wynn Las Vegas

Lakeside on Urbanspoon

Relaxing at The Wynn is one of our favorite activities.  Honestly, is there any other hotel in Las Vegas that says "luxury" quite like The Wynn?  It is such a nice hotel, I think I could just move in there and stay forever.

In our Encore suite -- can we live here forever??  After our big night at Botero and XS (http://noexcusesglutenfreecookbook.blogspot.com/2012/09/gluten-free-dining-at-botero-at-encore.html), we decided to spend the first part of our day lounging at the Encore and Wynn pools.  The pools at the Wynn and Encore are so beautiful -- they are surrounded by lush gardens and it is easy to get lost in all the box hedges (I did and I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland, in a good way).  As Encore guests, we had access to both the Encore pools and Wynn pools.  We spent some time at Encore before checking out the Wynn pools.  We found ourselves in the European section but there was nothing "European" going on at that time, thank goodness!  The European pool was quite nice because it was the least crowded and very private . . . and so relaxing!  We had a nice time.

Sarah Lounging at the Wynn European Pool    Hello Cabana Boys!   Following all that poolside lounging, we really needed an ice cream sundae.  All I wanted was an ice cream sundae.  So we walked all over the Wynn and Encore looking for one (I wish the Wynn and Encore restaurants would post their dessert menus online)!  Finally we made our way to LakeSide Grill, a charming restaurant on the Wynn side decorated in orange and white.  Apparently, it is situated next to the "Lake of Dreams" and that is where the name Lakeside comes from.  We told the hostess that we only wanted to order dessert and coffee.  That was no problem; they simply seated us in the bar area of the restaurant.  I knew I loved this restaurant when English Beat's "Mirror in the Bathroom" was playing in the background when I took my seat.

We order what they call the "Super Sundae" and some coffee.  The coffee was excellent.  I always judge a restaurant based on the quality of its coffee.  Here, the coffee was fresh, strong and flavorful.  It was obvious that the coffee was made fresh for me, rather than just sitting around all night.  That made me happy.  When the Sundae came it was gorgeous!  They give you several scoops of homemade ice cream, a huge amount of hot fudge sauce, and an assortment of delicious toppings, including whipped cream, peanut brittle, marshmallows, fruit compote, cookies, brownie pieces, and cookie dough.  We were surprised by the cookies, brownies, and cookie dough because they were not on the menu; of course those toppings were not gluten free so we could  not enjoy them.  Next time I will tell my server that I'm gluten free before I order, and hopefully the pastry chef can give me some different gluten free toppings in lieu of all that gluten containing stuff.

The ice cream was perfection.  I asked, and it was indeed made in-house.  Everything was made in-house.  The fudge sauce was created from Valrhona chocolate; it was amazing.  The peanut brittle was made in-house and it was fabulous: crunchy and sweet, but not too sweet.  The whipped cream -- REAL WHIPPED CREAM -- was oh so fluffy and rich.  The entire sundae was so tasty and so homemade.  I really appreciate pastry chefs who put the effort into making everything from scratch, in-house.  It makes such a huge difference in the overall taste.  At $16, it was a splurge, but it was enough for two people so we easily split it.  Loved it too!

We love The Wynn!  Thank you Steve Wynn for having Gluten Free menus in all your restaurants - what a guy!  Please check out our gluten-free cookbook website: http://noexcusesglutenfreecookbook.com Our book is also available in hard cover and Kindle version on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=no%20excuses%20gluten%20free%20cookbook%20

Red 8 at Wynn Las Vegas

Red 8 on Urbanspoon

We stopped in at Red 8 very late one night at The Wynn.  We were excited to try it because we love Chinese food, but it is sometimes difficult to find gluten free Chinese food.  It was pretty late so the restaurant was nearly empty.  At the Wynn, nearly all the restaurants -- including Red 8 -- have an allergen menu.  Red 8 is decorated with red, glossy black surfaces, and cream colored accents, along with the occasional blue and white porcelain vase.  I loved the decor.

We ordered the green beans with garlic and the chicken served with chili sauce and broccoli.  Everything was extremely fresh and delicious.  You know how sometimes you can just tell that all the ingredients are fresh, and you can really taste the difference?  That is how I felt dining here.  Our meal was filled with fresh, bright, and pure flavors.  The green beans were crisp and perfectly cooked, with a delicious flavor of garlic that complemented, but did not overwhelm, them.  And it was clearly fresh garlic, not that nasty pre-chopped stuff that comes in a tub.  Our chicken was also excellent.  I like everything to be extra spicy so I added hot mustard to my meal :).  There were three of us that night, and this was more than enough for all of us (maybe we are light eaters but we were very full with all this chicken and vegetables).  Overall, it was a very satisfying dining experience.  I will go back to Red 8.
