Have you ever been asked by a friend that what type of wine is your favorite and you do not have an answer? Well, if the answer is yes then you can read on to see how they are categorized:

Table wines: In America, white, red and pink wines are called table wines (in Europe, they are called light wines). These contain very low alcohol content (no higher than 14% in U.S. and between 8.5% and 14% in Europe). The number 14 is not just a random number. It is simply just because of the fact that there was never enough sugar in the juice to attain a higher alcohol level than that. However, nowadays, there are some exceptions and there are wines that can attain a little higher level of alcohol. This is because grapes are raised and cared in a better environment.

Dessert wines: This category refers to those that are added alcohol to have the alcohol level higher than 14%. As mentioned earlier, some table wines can have higher than 14% alcohol and legally, they are supposed to be called dessert wines but drinkers are still calling them table wines. In Europe, desert wines are called liqueur wines. It means that they are strengthened by additional alcohol and not original alcohol from juice.

Sparkling wines: Wines that contain carbon dioxide bubbles. All wines with bubbles are called sparkling wine. Champagne is a famous sparkling however, due to its popularity, the name Champagne is borrowed by producers from everywhere to name any of their sparkling wine as champagne. But, clearly, it is not produced the same way as the way Champagne that is made by French.
