We were very excited to try Mon Ami Gabi, at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, for its comprehensive gluten free menu. It was a pretty long trek from our room at The Encore all the way to The Paris Hotel -- especially in that 100+ degree weather -- but once we arrived we were so happy to sit down and relax in this charming Parisian cafe. We had studied the menu and we already knew that we wanted to try the French Onion Soup. It was lunchtime, so a light soup seemed like the right choice.

Our waiter, Keith, was fantastic. He came from Chicago originally (something he and my mom were able to talk about since she lived in Chicago for a number of years) and he lived in Southern California before moving to Las Vegas. He even showed us his 70s era driver's license to prove to us how much he looked like Mark Spitz back in the day -- it's true, he could be a body double for Mark Spitz.
Keith told us that Mon Ami Gabi gets a lot of business from gluten free customers and the kitchen staff is well-trained and extremely attentive to the seriousness of avoiding cross-contamination. When our soups arrived, they had a wooden stake which said "Allergy" -- a nice touch that lets the diner know that the kitchen staff is keeping your gluten free dish far away from any other gluten-containing dishes and ingredients.
Each item on the gluten free menu is served with gluten free bread. The bread was surprisingly very good. It had excellent texture and flavor.

The French Onion Soup was excellent. It was extremely hot! The melted Gruyere cheese was flavorful and thick. The presentation included gluten free croutons made from Mon Ami Gabi's signature gluten free bread. It was a large serving and by the end of it, I was full; So much for a light lunch!

The Gluten Free menu at Mon Ami Gabi has three dessert choices: creme brulee, chocolate mousse, and a flourless chocolate cake. They all sounded so good! Uncharacteristically, I decided to forgo dessert. I had just had a fabulous dinner at Botero the night before -- one which I finished at about 5am in my hotel room -- and the French Onion Soup was extremely filling. I still cannot believe that I did not order the Creme Brulee as I tend to order Creme Brulee pretty much every time it appears on a menu. I do this mainly to compare it to my own Creme Brulee recipe (from my cookbook) which I tested over and over again until it was perfect. So far, I have not tasted a creme brulee to beat my own -- maybe Mon Ami Gabi's creme brulee might have come close? I'll have to find out next time I'm in Las Vegas.
Keith also told us that Mon Ami Gabi has a wide array of gluten free choices on the breakfast menu, including omelettes, Eggs Benedict, and more. We would love to return to try the breakfast on our next Vegas trip!
Overall, this is a great choice for gluten free diners in Las Vegas. It is so nice to be able to go to a restaurant that has a dedicated gluten free menu, with a kitchen staff which truly takes the time and effort to make sure that GF diners are safe. We will definitely go back, and you should try it if you're ever vacationing in Sin City!!
